Pura Vida Bracelets markets beautiful bracelets that are handmade by talented artisans in Costa Rica.
The company began as a spark five years ago, when best friends Griffin Thall and Paul Goodman embarked on what they believed was just a simple graduation trip to Costa Rica.
There, amidst the breathtaking natural views, Giffin and Paul crossed paths with two local artisans who were creating incredible handcrafted jewelry.
That seemingly casual encounter has since turned into a highly successful business partnership through which hundreds of skilled Costa Rican artisans are now gainfully employed.
Today, the unique handcrafted Pura Vida Bracelets are proudly worn by millions of people around the world.
A Big Opportunity to Make a Bigger Difference
Unlike some businesses, Pura Vida Bracelets doesn’t view profitability as merely a symbol of success.
Rather, it’s part of a much bigger picture. After all, the more bracelets the company sells, the more jobs it can provide to struggling artists half a world away.
And while the company was certainly doing well, its owners recognized that there was still plenty of opportunity to perform even better.
That’s when Thall, in his constant quest to discover new and better technology and tools, initially stumbled upon Fomo in the app store. He was particularly intrigued by the thought of improving the user experience while also boosting conversion rates. It seemed like a win-win.
Implementing Fomo
Pura Vida doesn't have any developers on staff, but they were up and running with Fomo in minutes thanks to the one-click nature of our Shopify plugin.
Now, whenever someone visits the Pura Vida website, a small indicator appears at the bottom of the screen. This indicator displays a short, simple message letting the visitor know that someone else on the site recently performed a desired action, such as made a purchase, left a review or joined the Pura Vida monthly subscription club. The Fomo popup looks like this on the Pura Vida website:
These real-time customer behavior indicators are designed to create a sense of urgency that improves the chances of conversion. In other words, Fomo plays on people’s natural “fear of missing out” on something great. It essentially creates the illusion of a busy store. When visitors can see in real-time that other shoppers are taking action, they are more likely to be influenced to follow suit.
Powerful, Purpose-Driven Results
While the set up and messaging of Fomo may be simple, the results have been nothing short of amazing.
Within just 30 days, Pura Vida realized the following:
- Direct revenue of $32,260.52
- 983 sales directly attributed to Fomo
- 13.97% conversion rate (203% higher than site average)
- Average order size of $32.81 (~11% higher than store average)
In fact, Pura Vida has realized so much success by using Fomo that the company listed it as one of the eight core apps in their toolbox during a recent interview with Shopify.
“We really enjoy using Fomo because it lets our customers to see what someone else recently bought. This triggers curiosity similar to when a friend purchases a new item that you also want to see or try,” comments Thall, CEO of Pura Vida.
“Most importantly, Fomo helps us generate more conversions, which allows us to fulfill our mission of providing more work to Costa Rican artisans. Essentially, Fomo is helping us make a bigger impact on the world around us, and that’s a benefit you simply can’t put a price tag on.”
To date, Pura Vida Bracelets has provided 130+ skilled artisans with full-time employment and have donated more than $935,358 to 190 different charities with which it has partnered over the years.
